Whatever the Wind Brings

My old Asus laptop

The software I use for work — also known as a CAT Tool — is Windows-only. On my desktop, it runs fine, but I don't have access to it at the moment, so I've been working on my base Mac M1 using Parallels. As expected, being a base M1, there isn't that much RAM to go around, so I can't play Windows-only games (even if they are light, simple games), nor use Windows-based software except my CAT Tool of choice.

Sometimes I need a pure Windows environment running some things, but since my desktop isn't available at the moment, the solution is to use my 10-year-old Asus laptop. I upgraded it with some RAM and an SSD last year, and it has a GeForce 940M, so the computer still gets by, the processor being the only thing holding it back.

It currently looks like this. There's a reason I say it's been frankensteined.

A closed Asus laptop with screws going through the plastic where the hinges are located.

Yeah, at some point, one of the hinges broke, then another one. I had a friend screw them back together in a way that could make it very unlikely to break again, and this was the solution. To be honest, I kinda like it, it has a cool aesthetic from the outside, together with all the marks of a used laptop and whatnot.

I'll buy a new one as soon as I can because the processor isn't upgradable but, for now, this one still does what needs to be done.
